Rambut Gembel

It is living tradition in the Dieng Plateau, Kejajar subdistric North of Wonosobo such a tradition exists owning to the frequent occurrence to children having “Rambut Gembel” (Born to have sticky curly and twi sted hair) which considered to bring mis fortune. This is reason why “Ruwatan” (Purification) must be conducted trough a ceremony.
Such ceremony is held after the child has been able to put forward certain request to his parent, cerried out by putting a ring in to longer “Gembel” (Twisted hair) followed by casting a spell giving some offering then cutting is done. If Ruwatan thought is not upon request, even thought cutting has been done, the “Gembel” will oddly grown again.
